One of the first steps you take when looking out for a new set of tires is to figure out just what you want. That can be easier said than done, especially if you want something other than a set of passenger vehicle tires. Today, however, we’re going to be taking a look at Atlas Tires, who are known for both their passenger line and their tractor trailer truck tires.
Atlas Tire Company Background & Information
There are a lot of tire companies out there, but few of them have been around as Atlas Tires have. This is a brand that has been a part of Americana for decades and decades now, and it’s closing in on a century of service. They first came to notoriety in the 1930s when Standard Oil distributed them throughout the country.
Cars were still fairly new back then and not everyone had them, so this left an indelible mark on the nation. Atlas have never offered a ridiculous amount of tires at once, instead seeking to focus on coming up with quality and durable products rather than big amounts of bulk. One differentiating factor that makes them unique is that they carry tires for two distinct markets. Most tire companies sell only in the passenger market. That makes sense, seeing as how most people are going to be looking for that, anyway.
But they also carry tires for big rig trucks, or tractor trailers, or whatever you’d like to call them. This can be very helpful to many folks who just can’t seem to find a good source for those types of tires.
Atlas Tire Cost and Pricing
Atlas Tires might not be the same as Michelin or a tippy top of the pile brand name, but they are not all too far from that, either. As such, this is a brand that is going to offer you extremely good value for the dollar you pay. These tires are not cheap, especially when you factor in all of the new Chinese companies that are flooding the market with abundant sets of tires, but they are also not going to be costing you an arm and a leg, either.
These tires will come to you for a good, generally moderate price. Of course, this is relative to their standing, too. Big rig truck tires are going to be more expensive than a normal ‘road’ tire for cars is. This is just good old common sense. They are bigger a bit more specialized, not to mention come under more strain in most cases, so that is just how it goes.
Atlas, though, is still going to be a good bet for you if you want quality and value from your tires, regardless of the type you have at hand.
Atlas Tire Warranty
As is the case with all warranties, Atlas Tires offer one that is limited. This should not be an alarm, though, because they actually carry one. This is not always the case with companies out there, at high and low costs, so it is interesting to note that they do have one if you are an Atlas customer. In all tires, regardless if they are PCR or TBR, you are going to get a limited tread warranty.
If it’s not worn to 2/32’’, then you are going to get a free tire replacement, essentially. If it has gone beyond that but there is an issue, then you will have a fee that increasingly goes up to pay. While it’s not free if you have any issue, it sure is helpful. Much better to pay a little bit of a fee to fix your tire rather than paying a large sum to replace it entirely. They do need to be registered, and you have to make sure that you are using them in the proper manner, but it sure is helpful to know that they have your back with a warranty in the event that something unfortunate does occur.
Tire Options
Atlas doesn’t offer the most expansive list of tires in terms of the sheer number of offerings that they have, but they still have plenty for you to be happy with. They have a handful or so options for cars, ‘light’ trucks, and SUV’s. They do have plenty of sizes, though, for them to fit on.
We prefer this approach, quite honestly, as we find it to be monotonous and confusing to have to pick your way through dozens and dozens of tires that seem to be the exact same as the ones before it. With TBR tires, they do have a more extensive list, but it’s still not overflowing to the point of tedium for you to look through and ponder.
There is a nice balance between having enough to pick from but also not having too much in the way to confound and keep you guessing. As far as finding Atlas Tires go, it’s going to be a whole lot easier than finding them from many companies. With that said, it’s tougher to find big rig truck tires at dealerships, so that may take some doing. Compared to newer companies, though, these should give you a much better shot at being able to be found for sure.
Atlas Tire Technologies and Features
One look at Atlas Tires’ lines on offer makes it very clear that they have thought long and hard about technologies and features. Each tire line is a little bit different, but they all incorporate something in them that will make them better and of a higher quality. One thing that is nice to see from them is that they have passed all of the necessary tests to be deemed safe for the road. Again, this is not always a common thing to see, particularly with newer brands, so you should be thankful for this. With a string of top tier engineers to work on them and high testing standards, it’s easy to see why Atlas is still around and ticking well.
Atlas Tire Durability
Atlas Tires would not still be a name in the business if not for their ability to hold up well over time. And that is really as simple as it gets. On top of that, you can look at their warranty program as more proof of what they bring to the table. If a company knows that their products are inferior, you won’t see a warranty attached. But when there is a strong one, you can count on them coming through for you. Where there is smoke, there is fire, as the old saying goes.
Summary & Final Recommendations
If you are looking for a brand that has been there and done that for the better part of a century now, then you should look no further than Atlas. It’s not a massive brand, but it’s also got the necessary reputation and know how to get you from one place to the next in an efficient, safe manner. Whether you’re a professional trucker or just driving the kids around to practice, you’ll find great value and quality from Atlas.
