Searching for your brand new set of tires comes with plenty of challenges. Besides finding a set that meets your needs financially, you also have to narrow them down from a plethora of potential choices. Today, we’ll be looking at one very specific brand- AOSEN- as we seek to make that search just a little bit easier for you.
AOSEN Tire Company Information & Background
AOSEN Tires, as you could probably guess, is an off shoot brand of another company that is much bigger. In the tire world, this is very common. Even many of the big companies that exist out there offer sub brands so that they don’t lose your patronage. One reason for this is to keep costs down, while another is to service a different niche of the market.
AOSEN derives from a company known as Doublestar Tires. Doublestar has been around an extremely long time, tracing its roots back almost an entire century now. It operates out of Shandong, China, and has several brands under it at the moment. One of those, of course, is the subject of our review today in AOSEN. AOSEN’s role in the company is to provide various tires for passenger vehicles as well as big rig truck tires as well.
If you are unsure of Doublestar’s credentials, you should look no further than the fact that they are one of the top ten tire manufacturers in the world and also the largest tire company in China now. That is due to the acquisition of Kumho Tires, of which they now hold a controlling stake (45%) in as of 2016. That gives them a lot more leeway and will no doubt drive your confidence up- or at least, it should do so.
AOSEN Tire Cost and Pricing
Despite the fact that AOSEN is somewhat related to Kumho Tires now, you can still rest easy in the fact that you are going to be getting a relatively lower priced set of tires in relation to those that you typically would see. This is due to the fact they, yes, they are being made in China. That, as we all should know by now, means that prices can be lower due to lower labor costs and other factors as well.
A lot of times, you can also assume that prices are lower for products out of China due to them simply not being as well made. However, that is not always the case and should not automatically be applied in this instance when discussing AOSEN. At any rate, AOSEN offers competitively priced tires but not ridiculously cheap ones. And honestly, that should make you feel better about them, as sometimes a low price is too good to be true.
AOSEN Tire Warranty
As far as warranty info goes, we have not been able to track down much about AOSEN Tires or Doublestar, for that matter. Given their placement in the world of tires today, we’d be surprised if they did not have some type of program installed, but we are having issues finding such. So, asking around at the dealership or online with whomever you are buying from may just be the best foot forward if you are looking to protect yourself a little bit via a warranty.
Tire Options
In older times, you would rarely see a brand go into such different niches are tractor trailer truck tires and passenger vehicle tires, but that is becoming a little bit more normal as of late. AOSEN is another brand to have brought that into play, interestingly enough, so it could possibly make your search a bit easier than it would have otherwise been.
Within both categories, if you will, the brand offers a range of options. In passenger vehicles, they have tires for all sorts of weather and for various types of vehicles as well. For the TBR tires, they offer both long and short haul tires, tires made for going off road a bit with, and even more. They might not have everything you have ever looked for in regards to tires, but they sure do have quite a lot of stuff.
As far as finding AOSEN Tires goes, we feel that it will be slightly easier than with many other Chinese brands. With that said, you’ll likely still find it to be more fruitful to look them up and purchase them online, as that simply appears to be the best shot for you.
AOSEN Technologies and Features
Unlike so many of the newer Chinese tires manufacturers, Doublestar puts a whole lot behind their research and development endeavors. As such, they incorporate much more technology and features into their end product. This makes sense, and it’s become even more the case with the addition of Kumho to the team.
They have the latest and greatest machinery for their processes and labs that oversee their tests. They take steps well before launching a set of tires to ensure that they are up to standard, six steps to be specific, and that should mean a lot to you. As far as very specific features, it is hard to narrow down and talk too much about them due to their offerings being so incredibly different and varied.
Two things we like is that some of their TBR tires have been engineered to be resistant to fire, which is a massive upgrade on so many out there and a definite safety issue that is resolved. Many of their tires are also engineered to be resistant to scratches and punctures, which is not only good for your wallet but also good for your overall level of safety and security. One thing is for sure, and that is that they all perform well if used for the purpose they were intended to be used in.
AOSEN Tire Durability
Many Chinese tire makers get painted with too broad a brush, with people assuming that they will be absolutely not good at all due to where they came from. With AOSEN, though, you should not feel this way. You don’t get the sense, or should not get it, that they will just blow out on you as you drive down the highway, as some Chinese tires have been reported to have done over the years. While these might not be up the same standard as a Michelin tire, you can’t knock them for being a piece of junk at all, either.
Summary & Final Recommendations
While there are people out there that will downplay the strength, quality or usefulness of Doublestar- and AOSEN by proxy- simply due to them coming from China, we highly discourage that. If you are looking for a safe bet out of China, it’s not easy to find within the realm of tires. But with AOSEN you can get that, and a whole lot more. Acquiring Kumho was a massive get for them, and it just goes to show that this brand is a legitimate player in the tire game nowadays.
